A sew in weave starts with the foundation, not the hair. We braid your natural hair down in a pattern chosen for your head shape and for the style you are going for, then stitch the wefts onto those braids with a curved needle and thread. Nothing is glued to your scalp and nothing hangs off your hairline. Done properly the install sits flat, moves the way hair that grew there moves, and gives your own strands a few quiet months underneath to hold onto length.
You have real options here. A full sew-in covers everything and is what most people choose for a complete change in color or length. A partial leaves a section out at the crown or the part so your own hair frames the style. How long does a sew-in weave last?
Six to eight weeks is the sweet spot and ten is the outside limit. Past that the braids underneath loosen, the tension shifts, and your own hair starts to knot at the roots. We would much rather take it down and reinstall than let it sit too long. Call when you install and we will set your takedown date at the same time.
Will a sew-in damage my edges?
Not when the braid pattern is right and the tension is honest. Damage comes from braids pulled too tight, wefts sewn too close to the hairline, and installs left in for months. We braid to what your scalp can tolerate, keep the perimeter soft, and look at your edges again at every visit.
How much hair do I need to buy?
Two to three bundles covers most full installs. Anything past twenty inches, or a very full look, usually needs three to four plus a closure or frontal. Can I wash my hair with a sew-in?
Yes, and you should. Shampoo the scalp with your fingertips in sections, rinse until nothing is sitting under the wefts, then dry the braids underneath all the way through with a hooded dryer or a cool blow-dry. A damp foundation is what causes odor and mildew, not the hair itself.
What if my natural hair is short?
Short hair sews in fine as long as there is enough to braid down, which is usually about three to four inches. If you are shorter than that, a quick weave or a wig install will hold better and look cleaner.
